5 key moments at Construverde 2024: GBC Colombia

The fifteenth edition of Construverde 2024, the International Forum & Expo dedicated to Sustainable Design and Construction, was held in June 2024 under the theme “Let’s accelerate sustainable environments together”. This event is established as a key meeting point for professionals and industry leaders interested in promoting responsible and sustainable practices in construction.

The academic agenda was characterized by the participation of international and national experts on different topics within integral sustainability and the built environment, with the participation of more than 60 speakers in plenary sessions and parallel rooms. Topics such as decarbonization and resilience, regeneration and ecological restoration, communication and awareness for sustainability, status and trends of sustainable construction in Colombia, social impact and innovation, sustainable infrastructure, technological tools and artificial intelligence, conscious capitalism, net zero certification schemes, complete life cycle, BIM and integrative process, responsible investment and ESG criteria, philanthropy, monetization of sustainable construction, among others, were discussed.

The 5 key moments:

  • Releases: One of the highlights of the event was the launch of the second version of the Estado de la Construcción Sostenible en Colombia. This publication, available in the CCCS library for members and the executive summary open to the public, provides a comprehensive analysis of the current situation and future prospects for sustainable construction in the country. The first CCCS International Mission, Mission to Greenbuild 2024, was also launched.

  • Alliances: Two alliances were signed during the event: CCCS with ISI for Envision in Colombia, and CCCS with the Cities4Children alliance. Envision comes to Colombia as an invaluable tool that drives change towards sustainability and resilience in infrastructure projects.

  • Distinctions and awards: In the XV edition of Construverde, distinctions were awarded to 15 CASA Colombia projects certified in design, 11 projects certified in design, 11 CASA projects with final certificate, 4 CASA leading companies and 3 CASA Ambassadors. In LEED, 2 LEED pre-certified projects for communities, 19 certified projects and 1 LEED Fellow were recognized, acknowledging outstanding efforts in the promotion of sustainability in construction. Also, the Líderes que Transforman Awards were held with more than 30 nominations, which were rigorously evaluated by a national and international technical expert jury. In addition, voting was open for the Public Choice Award with more than 64 thousand votes.

  • Networking and trade show: With more than 600 attendees attendees at the event, networking opportunities were networking opportunities were experienced in every corner of the Colsubsidio Cube during the two days of the event, and there was also a commercial showcase of leading companies in sustainability, where participants learned about the latest innovations and solutions in sustainable construction.

  • Parallel activities: Within the framework of Construverde, several spaces and initiatives were carried out for the actors of the construction value chain, such as:
    • First Meeting of Bioclimatic Designers, gathering for the first time more than 30 participants from all over the country under a common objective, to develop a work plan together with the CCCS.
    • LEED consultants meeting with Peter Templeton, president & CEO of the U.S. Green Building Council & Green Business Certification Inc, where they discussed needs, market perception and upcoming actions that can be taken hand in hand with the CCCS.
    • Hall of sustainable solutions, a space for technical workshops where they delved into bioclimatic, the Nido platform, CASA Colombia documentation, the State of sustainable construction, Natural light and Net Zero Carbon: A challenge with Benefits by Exiplast, global trends of highly carbon-reducing products, now in Colombia by Mapei Colombia, Urban Design for children and a strategic breakfast for children and a strategic breakfast for children.     • Finally, two workshops were held, LEED for cities and communities for the first time in Spanish and Envision as part of the alliance with ISI and dictated by Sinfranova, which already has the first ENV SP accredited people in the country.
